10/23/2005One of the biggest mistakes a new artist or producer can make is to fail to provide a promotion and marketing budget.  It takes money to achieve sales and without it you're headed for failure.   -editor

The Need For A Budget

Last tip I talked about publicity and advertising being part of the same coin. Well, we have to pay for those ads. The publicity is "free" but we need to pay someone to write those press releases, as well as pay for their printing and postage to mail them out. Then, of course, we need to have someone talking to the editors, the music directors, etc. This all takes money.

How Much Money?

When providing for promotion we have to look at a couple of things. We first have to project the number of CD sales and the "gross profit" that we will make off those sales.
