THEY'RE WATCHIN'
The music industry year, like all business, is divided into quarters, and the first quarter (January 2), the bank is wide open. They're looking, What's hot, what's out there? What's BDS'ing, what's hot on the radio? What's hot in the record stores? If its Y.B.I., if it's Emenem, they're gonna know because they put a system in place. Before the Broadcast Data System (BDS) and the soundscan, promoters would bullshit the record labels, "Ah it's the hottest record in Detroit!" The record companies, at that time, had no way of verifying the information.
