4/15/2005:  - As a teacher I always like to back to basics every once in a while. Without the foundation, the whole building falls. This tip written by Tom Gelardi covers a basic that is sometimes forgotten in business: Presentation. And this applies to more than just the example Tom gives here.

Standing Alone
By Tom Gelardi

Being Italian, you know I like my pasta and tomato sauce. When one makes the sauce, one gets great tomatoes, great onions and great everything to go into the pot. A good cook would never use under-ripe or moldy tomatoes. One way of saying this is that each ingredient that makes up the recipe has to stand on its own - or its not very good sauce.

Industry professionals say things like, "The tune has to be a hit tune (it's got to stand on its own). The vocal performance has to be good (it's got to stand on its own). Every vocal line needs to communicate and contribute to the song (it's got to stand on its own)."
