Music Marketing Champ "American Idol" Returns

The ratings juggernaut "American Idol" returns for a fourth season on FOX. The talent competition/reality show has proven to be the one the biggest hits in the history of television, taking unknown singing hopefuls to fame and stardom. From a music marketing perspective, "American Idol" has taken on a life of its own.

According to BILLBOARD magazine, twenty-three of the singles released by the various "Idol" contestants--even those who did not even win the overall competition--have placed at #1 on their charts in genres ranging from Pop, R&B, Country, and Soul. What "Idol" has shown to those in the music industry is that a new way of marketing, promoting, and distributing music is as close as the TV screen.
