Who Should Make The Most Money?

The writer is paid when someone uses the song.  Any publishing deal should mean that the writer makes more money, not less.  A publishing company can take a song that has gained some popularity and increase revenue by getting the song more popular. A publishing company has a more difficult time getting the song its initial popularity.  If a well-known recording artist is going to record your tune, get a publisher on board to manage your copyright into a bigger asset.  If, however, you are doing a test release on an unknown artist (especially yourself) you should operate as your own publishing company and keep the money yourself; you won't have enough money to spread around.
