Now We Pump Up The Volume

Maybe the most important thing that the mastering engineer will do for you is to make your mix sound noticeably louder than it originally did.  Just like the commercials between the scenes of your favorite TV shows, compressing raises the average level and therefore the audio sounds louder.  In mastering music, however, we whish to keep the original clarity on the instruments and the preserve perceived sound quality of the original mix. Many of the commercials sacrifice sound clarity and quality for impact, but the professional mastering engineer, working with music, would never make that sacrifice. 

Some sacrifice of sound quality is unavoidable with compression, but the mastering engineer will work to minimize any such loss.  The possible ....
