Avoiding Headaches

In the last tip in this series I pointed out the potential headaches that you could encounter if your "local" or "test" release became popular.  A bunch of friends getting together to help each other out with their music could turn ugly and unfriendly when these friends later wanted to know where "their share" of money is from sales of a record they hear on the airwaves.  All of this could be avoided by getting things in writing beforehand.

But to do it right, expensive attorney fees could be incurred that makes it impossible to afford putting out a record.  Not being able to "afford" complete legal protection by getting an attorney active in making up contracts for you does not excuse you from doing "what you can" to get and keep things strait. I do however recommend at least an hour consultation with an entertainment attorney to keep yourself out of trouble.  But I also recommend ....
