EXCLUSIVELY BAD?
TRADITIONAL VS. CURRENT INDUSTRY CONTRACTS
By Bob Dennis

The Traditional Exclusive Music Biz Contract

If you were an artist recording your own songs, and somehow attracted the attention of national record companies, you would most often be offered an "exclusive" deal.  By "exclusive," we mean that you can only record for that record company for the next five to seven years.  By "exclusive" we mean that the record company's associated publishing company will control your copyrights (and keep 50% of the royalty money) for the rest of your life.  The company will assure you that "it knows best" of how to promote and sell records and get you as rich as possible - you will only have to take care of making music and they will handle all of the business.  They'll put some money in your hands to show you that they mean business and they will promise that they will invest "
a million dollars" into getting your product out and selling.

You need to learn to recognize it when someone slings the waste product of male cows at you in this business.
