A good rock
lead guitar should sound "right there" and "Huge". There should
also be a clarity of the notes being played. These factors create a
conflict in the microphone setup to pick up the instrument that we
show you how to quickly solve. |

The
double-tracking of rhythm and lead guitar parts gives a fuller, more
interesting sound and image in the final mix. This is a real
effective way of getting the superstar sound on the CD for a three
or four piece rock group. |

A STAKE IN THE HEART -
CRITICISM AND HOW TO TAKE IT By
Tom Lyle |
|
I
wrote about a topic of extreme importance
to anyone trying to get into any field. Now, it’s not like I’m an
expert. I’m still learning how to deal with this devil, but I
thought that I could share some of my “wisdom” with you all about
CRITICISM -- how to take it and how to deal with it. |

DIVIDED WE FALL |

Deceit,
raiding and underhanded business practices would be the words
used by the black labels. I'm sure CBS would describe it
differently. I think, however, the proof lies with the
result. |

Time Based Effects
- It is common to
have eight time-based effects going on in a mix of a 24 track
master. These effects give the "sparkle" and the "fatness"
associated with national hit records. An improvement in mixing
by recording musicians can often be accomplished by a better
understanding of the setup and use of time based effects.
