The theme of this issue, Recording & Mixing Rock, was
inspired by me listening to a CD released by Music Maker Publication,
entitled
Recording The Electric Guitar - It's all About Tone by Jon Bare of
the Killer Whales fame. I will be reviewing the CD in the next Recording
Engineer's Quarterly Issue (due out May 25th). The
demonstration was an eye-opener even for a seasoned engineer/producer like
myself. I highly recommend purchase of this CD with its companion text. Go
here

| I've managed to be involved with several platinum and
dozens of local rock productions in my 30+ years as a recording
engineer/producer. I've taught and written about recording
techniques for the last several years. In this issue I have tried
to condense past articles into three articles on recording and mixing
electric guitars. I then added similar information in an article
about rock recording of the bass guitar. By republishing a March 2001
article entitled Recording And Mixing The Drums, we have put
together sort of a primer for rock recording. Some of these
articles are intended for paid subscribers. You will have access
to these articles until the next Alexander Magazine posting date (June
25th). To find out about permanent access to these articles,
read about the difference between a free and paid subscriber. |
| developing artist
productions master consultant, Ron Dunbar, concludes his
description of Record Company Executives in his article The
Record Company Executives - Part 2. When you get to Step 5 of
The Right Steps On The Road To A Hit, you will want to know
exactly who handles what at record companies. |
