In mastering we are trying to get the best sounding master in the
media that will be used in manufacturing. All forms of media, be it a digital
CD, a prerecorded tape, am MP3, or a disc record have their own set of
limitations. This often means that a different master should be used for
manufacturing in a certain media. This article is about the phonograph record
media.
Distortion Characteristics:
In disc recording there is an inherent distortion called
"tracing distortion" which adds a second harmonic to the signal.
