020 -  An Introduction To Disc Mastering
Mastering is the job of optimizing the sound file for delivery through a particular medium. The vinyl record, still popular in certain circles his it's own special limitations that need to be provided for in disc mastering.
 
 

In mastering we are trying to get the best sounding master in the media that will be used in manufacturing. All forms of media, be it a digital CD, a prerecorded tape, am MP3, or a disc record have their own set of limitations. This often means that a different master should be used for manufacturing in a certain media. This article is about the phonograph record media.

Distortion Characteristics:

In disc recording there is an inherent distortion called "tracing distortion" which adds a second harmonic to the signal.
