006 - MASTERING IN THE ZONE - Pt1
Bob describes using the Ozone3 mastering software package for mastering compression, equalization and spectrum analysis. Part 1 starts with the software's equalization functions. Can this reasonably priced software package do a good job for us?

Introduction

If your surveyed professional mastering houses and mastering engineers, inquiring about what software does the "best" job in mastering, a lot of answers would come back WAVES (brand). Certainly the WAVES bundles are almost the industry "standard" with products ranging in list price from the Power Pack bundle ($500) to the Diamond bundle ($3800). Although this is expensive software, most professional mastering engineers would consider it a necessary expense.

As an educator and "headmaster" of a recording arts school, I deal with people starting out in the industry. "Entry Level" often means that the new technicians and engineers in the industry have very limited budgets. As a result, the question became, "Is there a less expensive software package, that will do a professional job?"
