Now that you have downloaded and installed AIM (AOL Instant Messenger), you can begin setting the preferences for your chosen screen name. |

| Getting a Second AIM Screen Name: | |||||||
| 1. Select "Switch Screen Name..." from the My AIM drop down menu. | |||||||
|
|
|||||||
| 2. Click Yes, when it asks if you're sure you want to end your session. | |||||||
|
|
|||||||
|
3. When the Sign on screen comes on, click the "Get a Screen Name" link. |

| Edit Profile: |
| 1. To edit your online profile, select the Edit Profile... option in the My AIM drop down menu. |
|
|
| 2. Click OK. |
|

3. Select the "Allow People to Search for Me" box, if you would like for other AOL members to be able to search for you. |
|
4. Use the text boxes to type personal information you feel is safe to release to the public. |
| 5. Use the drop down menu to select the country you live in. |
| 6. Click Next. |
|
|
| 7. If you would like to make yourself available for chatting, select the box, and use the drop down menus to choose some of your interests. |
| 8. Click Next to continue. |
|
|
| 9. Use the text box to type in any other information you would like the public to know about you. |
| 10. Click the Finish button when you're done. |

| 1. Click the Prefs button to access Buddy List and Privacy Preferences. |
|

| 2. You can use the text boxes on the Privacy Preferences to specify who can and cannot contact you. |
|
|
|
3. On the Sign On/Off preference sheet, you can store your password for Automatic Log-in. |

| 4. Set your Chat Room options. |
| 5. Set your Instant Message Options. |
|
|
| 6. Choose the type of font you will be using most frequently in your Instant Messages. |
| 7. Select the magnification of your Instant Message text. |
|
|
| 8. By clicking on one of the links on your right, you can go to a particular category of icons. |
| 9. By clicking on an icon, you can select that image to represent you on Instant Messages. |
|
|
| 10. If you would like for a particular message to display when your computer is idle, select this box. |
| 11. Use the text box to type in the message you want displayed when your computer is idle. |
|
|
| 12. To add an away message to your current list of away messages, click the Add Message button. |
|
|
| 13. Type in a label for your new away message. |
| 14. Enter the text to be displayed when you are away from your computer. |
| 15. Click the Save button. |
|
|
| 16. If you would like the News Ticker to display when you sign on, select this box. |
| 17. Indicate which topics you would like to see in the News Ticker. |
| 18. Use the drop down menu to indicate the scrolling speed of the News Ticker. |
|
|
| 19. For File Sharing, it is safest for you to choose "Don't Allow" on both lists. |
|
|
| 20. You can check to make sure your virus software has been detected by clicking the "Virus Checker" button. |
|
|
| 21. Once the virus software has been detected, click OK. |
|
|
| 22. Click OK to accept the new settings. |
