| Lesson 27: Downloading and Installing AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) |

Aside from getting an AOL account, it is possible to download just the Instant Messenger, and have your AOL screen name at absolutely no cost. Of course, this function is limited as far as what you have access to, but has its uses. For instance, when I feel like going into a chat room for a while, I turn on my away message to prevent constant interruptions from those pesky AOL members who like to invite chat room members to visit their "adult content" site. I keep AIM open while I'm in a chat room, and only the people who know my AIM screen name can contact me. |

| 1. Go to Keyword: aim. |
| 2. Click the button that says "Get AIM Now!". |

3. Click the "Windows" button, to install the PC version of the program. |

| 4. You can choose to either open the installation wizard from the site or download it to your hard drive. Choosing Open instead of Save, will allow you to begin the installation without saving the installation program to your hard drive, but downloading it is the preferred method, because there are less chances of an unsuccessful attempt. Since you would be able to install without being online, a broken connection would not interfere. If you would like to begin the installation wizard from the site, skip to step 8. If you would like to save the installation wizard to your hard drive first, continue with step 5. |

| 5. Use the drop down menu to select the destination folder for the installation wizard. For the purposes of this lesson, please save the installation wizard to your Desktop. |
| 6. Click the "Save" button. |

| 7. Double click the Install_AIM.exe icon in the destination folder. |
|
|
| 8. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement. |
|
|
| 9. Click Next, after you have read the text. |
|
|
| 10. Click Next, if the default installation folder is acceptable. |
|
|
| 11. Indicate whether you use a modem or LAN connection, and click Next. |
|
|
| 12. Use the drop down menu to select the Country you reside in. |
| 13. Type in your Zip/Postal Code. |
| 14. Indicate whether or not you want Netscape.com to be your home page and Click Next. |

| 15. Click Next to begin the installation. |
|

|
The following window should appear: |

| 16. Click OK when Setup is complete. |
|
|
| 17. Click the "Get a Screen Name" button. |
