| Lesson 17: Identifying Extensions and Viewing Files | |
Have you ever tried to open a file on your computer, but none of your existing programs seem to want to open it?
| 1. Go to www.filext.com and bookmark the site. | |
| 2. Unfortunately, another window pops up in front of the window you want, so close the ad for Sprinks. | |
| 3.Scroll down (almost halfway down the page) to find alphabetical links for file extensions. For the purpose of this lesson, we will look for .jpg. Begin by clicking on LETTER J | |
| 4. Scroll down the alphabetical list, until you reach .jpg | |
| 5. Looking at the line for .JPG, there are three links. The last links are for sites that allow you to either buy the software or download the freeware program needed to view these files (when available). Clicking on the first link will give you a description of the type of file this extension refers to. | |
